Background:
Over a period of 8 months (March - October 2009) Hope-SL was contracted to implement
a particular part of the National Reparations Programme, in partnership with the
National Commission for Social Action (NacSA).
Hope-SL started by organising suitable events to remember 23rd March 1991. On this
day 14 people were massacred in Bomaru, a town near the Liberian border. This marked
the beginning of a civil war that lasted for nearly 11 years. Following the heartfelt
response to this programme, Hope-SL planned and delivered Symbolic Reparations events
in 17 Chiefdoms in 5 Districts in the country.
A report on the memorial events in Bomaru is now available.
