Hope-Sierra Leone voted ‘NGO of the Year’ 2008

Hope-Sierra Leone voted ‘NGO of the Year’ at All Works of Life (AWOL) National Awards, Sierra Leone, 28 December 2008

Hope-Sierra Leone, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) affiliated to Initiatives of Change International, has been honoured with the 2008 All Works of Life (AWOL) award as ‘NGO of the Year’.

The 2008 AWOL awards, comprising a Certificate and a Trophy to each winner, were presented at an impressive ceremony in Freetown on 28 December, attended by The Second Lady, government ministers, Heads of Parastatals, parliamentarians, NGOs and civil society organisations.

The AWOL Annual Award is Sierra Leone’s most prestigious award ceremony and is celebrated each year to honour individuals and organisations that have contributed to national development.

Over 300 NGOs were eligible for the ‘NGO of the Year’ award. The winner, from a shortlist of three, was determined after a hectic spate of voting that took place all over the country through radio and television stations.

There is no doubt that one of the factors that led to the award being given to Hope-Sierra Leone was the wide publicity created during the recently concluded parliamentary dialogues “Healing wounds, building trust, moving forward together.”

During the ceremony, Hope-Sierra Leone was recognised for its significant contribution towards peace building and the promotion of good governance and democracy in Sierra Leone.
